Vineyard Walk in Cizhong Village

Walk among the terraced vineyards of Cizhong Village, where vines were first planted by French missionaries in the 19th century, and meet the villagers who still tend them today. The signature grape here is Rose Honey, a heritage variety that has gone extinct in its native France yet thrives in these remote Yunnan mountains, giving Cizhong wine its distinctive character. Cizhong sits at the junction of Meili and Biluo snow mountains, home to a mixed community of seven ethnic groups including Tibetans, Han Chinese, Naxi and Lisu. Climbing among the rows above the Lancang River, you see how viticulture introduced by faith became woven into the everyday life of the village.
