Experience story
In this hands-on craft session at Songtsam Lodge Lijiang you shape and decorate your own Tile Cat (wamao) — the small auspicious roof-guardian figure traditionally placed on the ridgelines of Naxi houses to ward off ill fortune and protect the home. A familiar sight across the rooftops of Lijiang's old town, the Tile Cat blends Naxi folk belief with the region's tile-making craft, and a guide walks you through forming and painting your own. Sessions run 12:00-14:00 or 14:00-16:00 and timing can be flexibly arranged. Your finished Tile Cat is yours to take home. Minimum 2 participants; please contact the front desk to book in advance.
