Sweet Wall Coating Experience at Songtsam Linka Lhasa

Join the team at Songtsam Linka Lhasa for a hands-on session of the traditional Tibetan 'aga' ramming craft (locally 'da aga'), the age-old method of building Tibet's smooth, durable earthen floors and rooftops. Workers spread a mix of 'aga' soil and gravel, then tamp it down for hours with long wooden rammers, working in rhythmic rows and singing labour songs so that the beating sticks and voices keep time together, a sight still found in Lhasa's old town and its monasteries. Taking part lets you feel the rhythm, the song and the communal effort behind a craft that is as much performance as construction. Held every day 09:00-10:00, with up to 8 people per session.
