Experience story
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings (19:30-20:10), Songtsam Lodge Lijiang hosts a performance of Naxi ancient music, often called the 'living fossil of Chinese music'. Played on antique instruments such as the sugudu lute, bamboo flutes and bowed strings, these centuries-old melodies were preserved by Naxi musicians of the Lijiang valley and trace their roots to Tang- and Song-dynasty court and Taoist music long lost elsewhere in China. Performed by elder players who learned the pieces by heart, the evening offers a rare and moving window into a musical tradition kept alive in this remote corner of Yunnan.
