Facing the Laigu glaciers, Songtsam Lodge Laigu sits between snow mountains, glaciers and lakes under the sky - a mysterious place beyond the world. As the highest property and the most difficult construction miracle of Songtsam, Lodge Laigu was awarded Winner for Best Architectural Design / Heritage Architecture by The Architecture MasterPrize 2019. With prime consideration given to the preservation of natural and Tibetan cultural heritage, the building was designed with modular prefabrication and embedded under a high cliff hidden from sight, keeping a harmonious relationship with the texture of the original village. Nearby Ranwu Lake is the largest lake in eastern Tibet; to its west lies one of the world's three major ancient glacier fields, the source of the Purlung Tsangpo. Six glaciers - Meixi, Yarlung, Ruojiao, Dongga, Xiongjia and Niuma - surround Laigu Village and are collectively known as the Laigu Glaciers. Snow-capped mountains and glaciers, forest lakes, pasture meadows, white pagodas, prayer flags and pastoral cattle and sheep compose a plateau pastoral landscape here.
